Join us for our next screening on the 10th of December 2024 at the Edinburgh Student Housing Coop
My Beautiful Laundrette (1985, Stephen Frears) is set in London during the Thatcher years and tells the story of young British Pakistani, Omar, who transforms his Uncle’s run-down laundrette into a thriving business with his punkish boyfriend (?).
The screenplay by Hanif Kureishi explores sexual identities, racial and class clashes in a very unique tone. We decided to screen this surprisingly unknown classic in August 2024 in response to the white supremacist attacks across the UK.
The film will be followed by a discussion. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and so are the bathrooms. The film will be subtitled. Let us know of any other access requirements and we’ll do our best to accomodate you!
