No Ordinary Man

Tuesday 4th of June – ESHC

For Pride month, we once again look at queer history and specifically trans histories.

In No Ordinary Man, Jazz musician Billy Tipton’s story is re-imagined and performed by trans artists as they collectively paint a portrait of an unlikely hero. Together, the filmmakers join Tipton’s son Billy Jr. to reckon with a complicated and contested legacy.

Directed by Chase Joynt and Aisling Chin-Yee this documentary asks how we relate with people from the past and how we tell their stories. If you liked Framing Agnes (Jase Joynt, 2022), you’ll love No Ordinary Man!

The screening will be followed by a discussion. Like in the old days, sitting in a circle and sharing thoughts. We can’t wait!
